THE CHALLENGES

Some of the challenges facing the nation, which I4J hopes to help in addressing, are;

  • High  unemployment rate in Nigeria
  • Low adoption of Information Technology in Nigerian businesses and governments
  • Widening digital divide between Nigeria and the developed world
  • Engagement of some Nigerian's in Internet scam.
  • Low skill and expertise in the area of Information Technology
  • Inability of  good Information Technology business ideas to attract startup funding in Nigeria

THE OPPORTUNITIES

Opportunities abound in Nigeria which can accelerate transformation of the nation into an Information Society, if properly harnessed:

  • Nigerian's are highly intelligent and can easily be trained to adopt new technologies
  • Nigerian's are enterprising and if properly motivated  can excel in business including online businesses
  • Increasing Internet penetration will enable users to access online services to be provided by governments and businesses
  • Various e-payment solutions that are emerging will enable users to pay for online services

THE SUCCESS METRICS

The success of I4J shall be measured from time to time and the following yardsticks are to be used.

  • Percentage increase in Nigerian business and government services available online (to be sourced from I4J beneficiaries and other sources)
  • Percentage increase in the number of internet-related jobs created. (To be sourced from I4J beneficiaries and other sources)
  • Percentage decrease in the number of reported Internet scam cases in Nigeria. (To be sourced from EFCC and other law enforcement agencies)
  • Percentage increase in Nigeria Internet local content (to be measured at the Nigeria Internet Exchange Points).
  • Percentage increase in the contribution of ICT sector to Nigeria's GDP (to be sourced from the National Bureau of Statistics).
