The Internet for Jobs (I4J) Initiative is a program designed by the Nigeria Internet Group to explore the potentials of the Internet to create jobs for the people and transform the nation into a knowledge society. To transform Nigeria into an Information Society where Business and Government services are available online and the citizens are positively engaged in knowledge driven economic activities.
 
The objectives of the I4J Initiative are:
  • To create Internet related Jobs
  • To positively engage Nigerian youth, thereby diverting their attentions away from anti-social activities
  • To bridge the digital divide between Nigeria and the developed countries
  • To create local Internet content
  • To accelerate Nigerian's transformation to a knowledge society
 


 
 
 
eGOVERNMENT & eBUSINESS


 
 
THE GRANTS
Facilitation of e-business and e-government shall be done by giving grants to the beneficiaries of I4J initiative to implement their eBusiness and eGovernment services. The grants shall be provided by sponsors of the I4J initiative. The grant is to enable the beneficiaries set up online services which are in demand or may be in demand by their target communities/market. The amount of the grant to be given to each beneficiary shall be determined by the sponsor that selects the beneficiary's project. The grant shall not be given in cash to the beneficiary but used to pay for services supported by the I4J initiative. These services include web portal development, training (Information Technology and Entrepreneurship) and marketing.

Expressions of interest in I4J are hereby requested from Beneficiaries and Sponsors. Click here to fill the appropriate online form. It is possible to wear more than one cap in the I4J program. A promoter can be a sponsor, a sponsor can be a beneficiary, etc.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
To achieve the above objectives, the following strategies are adopted.

  • Promote and facilitate e-Business
  • Promote and facilitate e-Government
  • Promote and facilitate local Internet content
Promotion of eGovernment and eBusiness shall be done by organizing focused sectoral workshops for top management and IT professionals of various industries and government departments within the economy, with a view to convincing them to but their services online and give them the necessary guide on how to accomplish this. With the promotion of e-business and e-government, I4J aims at creating jobs for software programmers, webmasters, Database managers  and others in related fields and in addition to growing the businesses of ISP, e-payment companies, cybercafés etc who are great employers of Information Technology personnel.
